Railway Kavach Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) Laying, Termination, Splicing, Testing & Commissioning Project
Stallion Power Infra Private Limited successfully executed the
Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) Laying, Termination, Splicing, Testing and Commissioning
works associated with the Railway Kavach Automatic Train Protection (ATP) System.
The project involved establishing a reliable optical fibre communication network along the railway
corridor to support communication and data connectivity between Kavach field equipment,
stations, telecom infrastructure and associated railway signalling systems.
The project included route preparation, trenching and installation of
HDPE ducts, laying/blowing of armoured OFC, construction of cable jointing
arrangements, fibre splicing, termination at designated locations and installation of
fibre distribution and associated telecom equipment. The OFC network forms an important
communication backbone for Kavach infrastructure, with Indian Railways identifying
trackside OFC laying as one of the key activities in Kavach implementation.
Detailed testing and commissioning activities were carried out to verify the optical
performance, continuity and integrity of the fibre network. OTDR testing, power-loss
measurements, fibre identification, termination checks and end-to-end connectivity
verification were undertaken before commissioning. All works were executed with
appropriate safety measures, quality control procedures and adherence to approved
railway drawings, specifications and site instructions.
Project Scope
- Detailed survey and finalization of OFC cable route along the railway corridor.
- Site preparation, trenching and installation of HDPE telecom ducts.
- Laying and installation of armoured Optical Fibre Cable through approved routes and ducts.
- Blowing/pulling of OFC through HDPE ducts using suitable cable-laying equipment.
- Provision of OFC joint chambers and cable protection arrangements at designated locations.
- Preparation and installation of OFC joint closures.
- Optical fibre splicing and proper fibre management at joint locations.
- Termination of OFC at designated stations, Kavach locations, telecom rooms and equipment locations.
- Installation and dressing of fibres in Fibre Distribution Management System (FDMS/FDF) arrangements.
- Installation of connectors, pigtails, patch cords and associated fibre accessories.
- Identification, tagging and proper documentation of individual optical fibres.
- OTDR testing and measurement of optical fibre link performance.
- Optical power and insertion-loss testing of completed fibre links.
- End-to-end continuity and connectivity testing of the OFC network.
- Rectification of fibre faults, excessive losses and improper splicing wherever required.
- Final testing, commissioning and integration of the OFC communication network.
- Preparation and submission of cable route plans, fibre termination details and completion documentation.
